Heart diseases are a cause of death, but it doesn't mean that you need to accept it as a fate. Few risk factors are uncontrollable but there are preventive measures that can stop you from heading towards these cardiovascular diseases.
A healthy life style helps in avoiding the heart problems. Use of tobacco or smoking is the most significant factor in developing heart diseases. The chemicals used in it damage the blood vessels by narrowing them. While considering the heart problems, no amount of smoking is safe. Women who smoke and take birth control pills are more exposed to heart problems than those who are not into any of these acts. With age, the risk of having an attack or stroke also increases.

A combination of the physical activity with the healthy life style pays you greater in terms of adding more years to your life. The problem of weight is controlled with the help of the exercises and reduces the strain on heart. High blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar are directly associated with the increased weight. The stress is also reduced with the help of the exercises which is also a contributing factor in heart diseases.
A special diet also known as Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) help to prevent the major heart problems. It protects the heart and the vessels for the smooth blood flow. A DASH diet is low in cholesterol, fats and salt. There are fruits, vegetables, grains and low fat dairy products included in the diet plan that keep your heart healthy. The low sources of proteins and beans like fish also prevent the heart diseases.
As high blood pressure and cholesterol level damage the heart, but without their regular screening you would be unable to have a check on them. May be you will be ignorant of their stage, if you haven't taken the test. It is a misconception that these diseases only occur at the later stages of life. In US, one out of every 20 persons has a heart disease and is below 40 years of age.
